Peaches recalled over Listeria scare in California


A suspicion of  Listeria monocytogenes contamination led a Californian fruit packer to recall peaches, nectarines and plums. The decision was made after in-house tests suggested product could be infected. Some background information is available here. The relevance to New Zealand is that a. we do stock Californian summerfruit, b. having an internal testing regime is good agricultural practice, c. we grow and pack peaches here as well, d. it is better to be safe than sorry.
