Executive Diploma in Produce Marketing

The AgriChain Centre offers New Zealand fresh produce industry managers the opportunity to obtain the industry specific Executive Diploma in Produce Marketing.

The Programme

The Diploma in Produce Marketing is an eighteen-month, in-post action learning programme based around an organisation’s key issues related to the marketing of produce. Tutorials are normally organised at four to six weekly intervals at a time of mutual convenience. The programme makes extensive use of IMCA’s on-line course materials.

Participants will gain knowledge by researching and acting upon real issues and by taking real decisions carrying real responsibilities. Examinations involving recollection of textbook theory and historical case studies will not be used.

The Approach

The philosophy behind this Diploma is Action Learning which makes learning more effective and valuable by focusing on your own real-world issues. Learning is directed to where it will be most useful - the participants’ place of work.

Course Contents & Structure

The Diploma will be awarded on the basis of Associates having successfully completed the following:

Own Organisation Monograph (OOM)

The OOM is prepared after acceptance into the programme and before the programme formally commences. It is a 2000 word summary that outlines the role and purpose of the Associate’s organisation and identifies the Associate’s own role in the organisation as well as the issues perceived as most likely to influence the future managerial success of Associates themselves and their organisations.

Three Written Action Cases (WAC)

The WACs are based on the four topics covered during the course of study, namely, Marketing Management, Marketing Analysis and Decision-Making, Marketing Planning and Implementation, and Marketing Communications. The 3000 words WACs integrate coursework and managerial learning with the real issues facing the Associate and his/her organisation.

Evaluative Assessment of Managerial Learning (EAML)

The EAML sums up in 3000 words managerial learning that has occurred and creates the framework within which the Associate applies his or her new skills to the future benefit of the organisation.

Diploma candidates will also be assessed by way of a viva-voce (oral) examination conducted by an external examiner.

Accreditation & Credits

The Executive Diploma in Produce Marketing is awarded by the International Management Centres Association (IMCA). IMCA programmes are accredited by the British Accreditation Council (BAC) in London, UK, within ISO 9002 Quality Assurance protocols for operational support. Successful Associates will also earn 60 credits towards a Master in Science (Marketing) Degree from IMCA’s own corporate University of Action Learning in Colorado.

The Investment

The course investment for an Auckland based course is $8,000 plus GST per Associate. Associates will become associate members of the International Management Centres Association and gain access to IMCA’s online business library, containing some 1200 fully searchable management and business journals. The additional Graduation Fee of 450 British Pounds includes certification, A+ enhancement guarantee and first year graduate membership of the Association.

The investment in time varies based on the degree of integration between an Associate’s course requirements and his/her ability to integrate those into the workplace environment and activities. On average, Associates should work on the basis of an eight-hour per week time commitment in addition to the face to face tutorial sessions. Given the nature and principles of Action Learning a high degree of workplace/learning integration is anticipated.
